Background

Born in Monterrey, N.L. in the early 1980s through the initiative of Navigation Services in the Mexican Air Space (SENEAM) and Air Traffic Control-FAA. The original name of the seminar was “Operation Friendship”, and it was created in order to guide and familiarize pilots in the northeastern region of the country about basic air traffic control procedures and air regulations of the United States of America. Over time, at the request and recommendation of the aeronautical authorities of both countries, it was decided to change the title of the seminar to the International Aviation Safety Seminar “Amigos de la Aviación” and it became organized mainly by the General Directorate of Aeronautics. Civil (DGAC), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Currently, 27 editions have been held in different venues such as; Monterrey, Querétaro, Cozumel, Saltillo, Guadalajara as well as San Antonio, Laredo and San Diego, among others.

Amigos de la Aviation aims to provide updated information to technical personnel, general aviation operators, air taxis, and aeronautical workshops on regulations, procedures, technological advances and equipment requirements in aircraft, such as RVSM, TCAS, EGPWS, FDR -CVR and others.

We have the participation of aeronautical authorities from Mexico and the United States; customs and immigration authorities, Homeland Security, health authorities, airport administrators such as Aeropuerto del Norte, San Antonio and Laredo, Texas, as well as people related to airport services, aviation schools and countless experts in aeronautical and academic institutions such as UNAQ and UANL, since this event gives students of different careers related to the sector the opportunity to learn and find job opportunities.

One of the most important achievements in this seminar has been obtaining authorization from the FAA to carry out US licensing exams for mechanics and private pilots without having to travel to the US.

In addition, the FAA recently authorized Central American countries to submit their license applications in Mexico, which is why the presence of participants from countries such as El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, Chile and Colombia is also expected.
